Vinton Unlimited’s Destination Vinton committee has been hard at work again for 2016. We are eager to share that we have over 10 tour groups lined up to visit Vinton throughout 2016. Possibly the highlight of the tour groups will be the folks travelling with Country Travel Discoveries and the Our Iowa magazine. The Destination Vinton committee began ‘petitioning’ for this visit back in 2014. After much persistence, cheerleading, hard work and a visit from the CEO, Country Travel Discoveries (CTD) had decided to add Vinton to their ‘East Central Iowa Tour’. To top it off, CTD decided that we would be an overnight stop on the tour! Our group is ecstatic and we are expecting 4 visits this summer and fall.
We have several other bank trips lined up and are eager for them to all visit. Plans for the various days include stops at the Iowa Braille & Sight Saving School, the Train Depot, Old School Produce, lunch and some shopping time as well!
How did these groups find out about little, old Vinton you might ask? Some groups have contacted the IBSSS directly through word of mouth and past visits. The Destination Vinton committee has directly contacted some of the groups as well. Last fall we did a large mailing to numerous bank tour operators and tour organizers. With follow-up phone calls and emails, we have managed to snag a few visitors! We had reached the tour organizers at the perfect time of the year as they had just begun looking for trip ideas for 2016.
The itinerary is different for each group visiting. We want to tailor the visit to exactly the interests of the visitors! What does Vinton even have to offer? Check out the press release section on the Vinton Unlimited website for the 4 part series on ‘Being A Tourist in Your Own Community’
